WWI French Made Victory Embroidery - Beautiful
This is the sort of thing I don't usually mess with but this is just a gorgeous example. Very richly embroidered silk victory piece. I am not sure what I would call it but the quality obviously implies it should be framed and hung. The silk center is bordered by a nice, thick gold braid and this is itself within a lace border. The center shows the US Lady Liberty holding the American flag standing on a globe. The allied shields surring the center portrait. In the corners are the words GLOIRE ALLIES VICTOIRE and DELIVERANCE. Pretty easy translation there. This was probably made by a French lady and sold to an American soldier. There is one tear of about an inch in length over GLOIRE but only visible if pulled apart so would not show at all if framed (Which this should be). This is so pretty I have mixed feelings selling it but there is only so much wall space in the house.
