Engraved Bavarian Short Sword by Eickhorn - Imperial
Engraved Bavarian sword by Eickhorn. I believe this short model (Just over 70cm end to end) is intended for use by police. This is an early Imperial German example with the early back to back squirrel Eickhorn logo. The blade is very nice with no nicks or plating issues and only very minor light spotting here and there due to age. Both sides of the blade are engraved with the Bavarian "In Treue Fest" motto (In true service). Also engraved is the distributor J.M. PAUSCHINGER NURNBERG. In later swords more commonly encountered this is engraved along the spine. The handle is tight and excellent throughout with nice, smooth nickel fittings. The only negative with this sword is the fact that most of the wire wrap is missing from the grip with only two turns remaining. It might look more even to remove the remnants and leave a plain grip which I think would look just fine. The scabbard is in great shape with healthy, undamaged leather showing very minor age wear. The fittings match the handle fittings in both material and patina. At any rate, a very nice, early engraved example of a nice sword.
