Very nice German engraved officer sword. very handsome lion head features red ruby eyes. The front langet shows sabers and pennants indicating the officer was from the artillery branch of service. The back langet shows a blank shield where the officer could have opted to add a monogram. The knuckle bow features another monogram shield laying in front of more sabers, a lance and a cartridge box; All under an iron cross. The grip is a high quality fish skin with twisted silver triple wire wrap. The brass parts of the handle have not been cleaned in forever and a day and have taken on a rosy-chocolate patina that is more then a little pleasing. The scabbard has its original black paint with no dents and the movable suspension ring indicates production likely during the Third Reich. The blade is maker marked on the spine STOLZMANN POSEN and features intricate floral etching with various stands of arms. The blade and scabbard show gentle age wear but nothing that make this an undesirable sword. Nice, classy engraved sword.
