Here is another sterling silver minaudiere (hard purse) from ca. 1900. This one is hallmarked but I don't know the maker. Possibly European or English. It has a wonderful shield like cartouche on one side and a chased floral design on the reverse. The interior is a green/blue silk voille fabric in excellent condition. Lovely "hard" purse (known as a minaudiere) fashioned from sterling silver by the American silver maker, Blackinton. The purse measures approx. 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" plus the 12" link chain handle. The beautifully chased floral design (same on both front and back) surround an oval cartouche which is not monogrammed. This dates from about 1900. This lovely glass beaded purse is in remarkable condition for its age! It features garlands of forget-me-nots and roses on a black ground. There is also a nice use of metallic gold beads in the fringe and geometric border at the top as well as a scrolling border on the bottom. The interior is lined with a suede cloth-like fabric. I don't know where to start with this one. Clearly at least 100 years old. The base fabric is a heavy duty silk - sturdy enough to withstand the weight of the ornate beadwork. It is a little jacket or shoulder covering or cape or as I like to call it, a "capelet". It is worn over the shoulder and is fitted but does not have sleeves. How rare is it to find one, let alone a pair of these? Each half doll is attached to its original hand-made pincushion bottom. Both are in a state of needfulness in that the trim is coming undone from the main fabric and there has been staining on the cloth. I wouldn't try to do anything to these as right now they are in their original state. Fabulous! I have a total of 9 photos but could only put up 5 of them here. Email if you wish to see more.
