Offered is a rare and fine American coin silver teaspoon by Lewisburg silversmith John K. Housel. There were a number of Housels working as silversmiths and watchmakers in Pennsylvania over the course of at least two generations, and the relationships between these men are confusing and poorly documented. However, the Union County Historical Society, covering Lewisburg (which is north of Harrisburg) holds silver with this mark, attributed to John K. Housel. Housel is known from tax lists to h...

Offered is a rare early American coin silver table spoon by Lancaster, PA silversmith George Haverstick (b. 1788, d. 1824). Although silver from George's brother William is encountered fairly often, that of George and of his brother John is quite uncommon. This is especially the case with a large tablespoon like this one. This piece measures about 9 7/16 inches in length and weighs about 50 grams. Condition is good overall, with moderate wear to the surface but no major dents and no splits o...

Offered is a very fine and heavy American coin silver table fork by William Brady, circa 1850-57. Brady is not well known, but luckily his obituary, which gives good information, was published in the July 22, 1879 edition of the Harrisburg Telegraph: "William Brady. The last of five brothers, all well - known, and each highly esteemed in the business circle in which he moved in this city the last of these brothers died last night. William Brady, the subject of this brief sketch, was the ...

Offered is a fine American coin silver teaspoon bearing the mark of Easton, Pennsylvania jeweler William Bixler, circa 1840. The spoon is marked W.BIXLER in a rectangle, and is also marked with a manufacturer's mark. William Bixler (b. 1793 - d. 1848) was the son of the famous Easton clockmaker Christian Bixler, and apprentice and then successor to his father. This is the first piece I've seen with William Bixler's mark. This spoon measures about 5 13/16 inches in length and weighs about 16 ...

A very good early American coin silver table spoon marked W.MILLER with a pseudo-hallmark of an eagle. This mark is sometimes given to a South Carolina silversmith by the name of William Miller, but the weight of evidence is that this mark is one of the marks used by Philadelphia silversmith William Miller, working circa 1810-40. So, likely not Southern coin silver. This spoon is in excellent condition, with no dents, splits or repairs, and only moderate wear from normal usage. It is engrave...
