This piece has a legible maker's mark and an engraved period script monogram. This piece measures about 6 5/16 inches in length and weighs about 26 grams. Offered is a nice example of a coin silver spoon evidently made as a toy or for the use of a small child, measuring 4 3/16 inches in length and weighing about 7 grams. Ordinarily I might assume this is simply a spoon form (as opposed to ladle form) master salt spoon, but with the engraving of the name "Bertie" (a diminutive of "Robert"), I have to assume it was made for a child. This piece has no maker's mark, but by style it should date to the 1825-50 period...

Offered is a beat-up but quite scarce example of a Philadelphia coin silver teaspoon, circa 1810-14, bearing the maker's mark of Thomas W. Harper (the manufacturer) and Joseph Anthony & Son (the retailer); silver with any of Mr. Anthony's marks is uncommon, let alone with Harper's mark also. This piece has worn but legible marks and a period engraved script monogram. It measures about 5 5/8 inches in length and weighs about 13 grams...

Offered is a nice shellback coin silver silver spoon marked with probably New York manufacturing marks, and the name of the retailer, one J.K. McDonald. This person was probably in New York, but I'm not completely sure. This spoon has legible marks and a period engraved monogram. It measures about 6 1/8 inches in length and weighs about 19 grams. Condition is fair, with a fair amount of wear and some small dings here and there, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice coin silver spoon!

Offered is a city-marked New Hampshire coin silver spoon by Stanford Hovey and Amos Parker, working as Hovey, Parker & Co. circa 1850-52 in Manchester, NH. This spoon has good marks and a period engraved owner's name on the handle, which is unusual enough to likely be traceable. This spoon measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 13 grams. Condition is fair, with some dings and bends but no splits or repairs...

Offered is a nice American coin silver spoon circa 1815, give or take five years, with a maker's mark of "O.&C." and a period engraved script monogram of "UT". The maker is unknown, at least to me - while Ott & Cluff of Virginia has been suggested, this spoon feels to be a bit late for that partnership. As such, it is a bit of a mystery! This piece measures about 5 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 12 grams...

Offered is a very nice coin silver teaspoon by little-known maker Frederick Smith, working as a silversmith and jeweler from about 1833-45, and as a case maker and pocket-book maker thereafter. This spoon has a rubbed but legible maker's mark for Smith, as well as a period engraved script monogram. It measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 11 grams. Condition is fairly good overall, with a slight wave in the handle and a small ding in the bowl, but no splits or repairs...

Offered is a lovely and earlier coin silver spoon by Philadelphia silversmith, clockmaker and jeweler Nicholas LeHuray, Jr. (b. 1797 - d. 1846), working circa 1821-46 in that city. Nicholas LeHuray, Jr. made or sold some very fine flatware, and occasional hollowware. His work is not all that scarce but is usually very desirable. Check my other listings for a slightly later and larger set of four teaspoons by LeHuray, Jr...

Offered is a nice 19th Century American coin silver sugar shell by unknown silversmith or jeweler H. J. Low, possibly a man named Henry J. Low purportedly working in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in the mid-19th Century. I haven't found a verifiable reference for this mark, which is H.J.LOW in a rectangular punch. It doesn't appear that this Mr. Low is related to the much more famous Low family of silversmiths/jewelers in Boston in the same era - at least not closely...

Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon bearing the mark of silversmith Guy Loomis, working 1816-37 in Sheffield, Mass., and 1837 to his death in 1874 in Erie, PA. This spoon is from the Erie period, and so marked. It probably dates to prior to 1860. This piece is engraved with a period script owner's name of 'Mills' and has a good clear maker's mark or retailer's mark. This piece measures about 5 13/16 inches in length and weighs about 16 grams. This spoon is an interesting mystery, that might be easily solved, or not. If you can provide a definitive identification of the maker of this spoon, with a reference, you will receive a nice coin silver spoon in good condition, or $15 off your next order with me. This spoon resembles some spoons by William Moulton, and may be by him, though I've not located a reference to this specific maker's mark. It could also be by someone else. The heel is quite specific. The spoon appears dirty, but ...

Offered is a lovely pair of early American fiddle pattern coin silver teaspoons, by noted Philadelphia silversmith Phillip Garrett (1780-1851), who was working in Philadelphia from about 1801 through at least 1835. By style, these late transitional fiddle style teaspoons should date to about the 1810-20 range, give or take a few years. Each spoon has a good clear maker's mark and each has a period engraved script monogram. These spoons measure about 5 7/8 inches in length and the pair weighs ...

Offered is a lovely American coin silver sauce or cream ladle by noted Philadelphia silversmith George K. Childs, who also eventually became Chief Coiner of the United States Mint in Philadelphia. This piece probably dates to the 1840s. It has a clear, well-struck maker's mark and a period engraved script monogram. This piece measures about 7 inches in length and weighs about 26 grams. Condition is good overall, with minor wear and signs of normal use, but no splits or repairs. All in all a...

Offered is a good American coin silver dessert spoon by the partnership of J. Gorham & Son (Jabez Gorham and John Gorham), working in Providence, RI between 1841 and 1850. This spoon has a good strike of the firm's maker's mark (one of several used over the firm's history), and also has a "Providence.R.I." mark. This piece also features a period engraved owner's name in script. This spoon measures about 7 1/8 inches in length, and weighs about 27 grams. Condition overall is very good, with m...

Offered is an interesting coin silver dessert spoon made circa 1850s by Gorham & Co. (John Gorham, Gorham Thurber and Lewis Dexter), in business in Providence, Rhode Island between 1852 and 1875. This framed mark with scalloped corners is most common in Providence silver of the 1840s and 50s, and multiple silversmiths and firms seem to have called upon the same die cutter. The framed mark for Gorham & Co. seems to be a fairly uncommon variant, perhaps used only for the first few years of the p...

Offered is a very good American coin silver teaspoon bearing the maker's mark or retailer's mark of Philadelphia watchmaker and jeweler John J. Parry (fl. 1790s - 1835); this spoon should date to about 1825 and bears the Philadelphia eagle mark that either signifies manufacture by R. & W. Wilson, or was used by a percentage of the makers of Philadelphia between about 1825-50 to denote quality and/or origin. See my other listings for a separate and somewhat earlier piece bearing Parry's mark alo...
