A good small American coin silver teaspoon by an undocumented silversmith with maker's mark of O. Pierce (first name unknown), circa 1812-24. Although this mark has traditionally been associated with a Boston tradesman circa 1824, which would fit by style, there is also an Oliver Pierce, "jeweller" (or silversmith), listed in the New York city directory for 1812, at 189 William St. He is not listed in the 1813 directory. Although this piece is too late for that date, it is possible Oliver Pierce continued his career, either in New York or elsewhere. This spoon measures about 5 1/8 inches in length and weighs 10 grams. Condition is good overall, with some surface wear and scratching, and some dimpling in the bowl, but no splits or repairs. A good little spoon with a scarce maker's mark.
