Heavy Coin Silver Tablespoon by Harvey Lewis, Phila.
A good early American coin silver table spoon by noted Philadelphia silversmith Harvey Lewis, circa 1820-25. The spoon bears one of Lewis' less common maker's marks, a very finely made "HL" in a plain rectangle. This tablespoon is quite heavy for a fiddle pattern piece, weighing in at 74 grams, or over two troy ounces. It measures in at about 8 7/8 inches in length. Condition overall is fair, with a significant amount of tip wear but no major dents and no splits or repairs. There is a good period engraved monogram of an "E" and the maker's mark is clear and crisp. All in all a fine piece of American coin silver!
