Offered is a good set of six Southern coin silver tablespoons from Wheeling, [now West] Virginia, circa 1850-60. These table spoons are by James T. Scott, of Wheeling, WV, and bear his maker's mark of JAMES T. SCOTT. (Some of these spoons are overstruck with a mark of R.BROWN, perhaps for Robert Brown of Baltimore. However, these spoons were made for the Wheeling market as other silver from this family with the same monogram had the mark of J. Bishop of Wheeling.) These spoons measure on average about 8 1/2 inches in length; the total weight of the spoons is 316 grams. Condition overall is very good, with little tip or surface wear, and no splits or repairs. A couple of the spoons have small dings to the bowls, but a decent silversmith should be able to smooth those out, and they are very unobtrusive. There is a good period engraved monogram of "NPM" on each spoon and the maker's mark is legible on each. All in all a fine example of Southern coin silver from Wheeling!
