Heavy Philadelphia Coin Silver Table Fork Engraved w/Monogram & "USA"
Offered is a scarce American coin silver fiddle pattern table fork by Philadelphia silversmith Peter G. Perdriaux, working circa 1850s. Perdriaux was born circa 1830 and died circa 1865, cutting short a promising career as a manufacturer. This fork is of typically good quality, measuring about 7 1/8 inches in length and weighing approximately 50 grams. It is engraved with a period script monogram, and below that is engraved (probably slightly later, but within the same generation) "USA". This piece has a good clear maker's mark, and a nice feel in the hand. Condition is good, with some over-polishing and surface wear, but no evidence of machine buffing and little tine wear. There are no splits or repairs. All in all a fine and useful fiddle pattern table fork from an important Philadelphia silversmith's shop!
