Good Georgian English Sterling Silver Snuffbox, William Simpson c1827
Offered is a very nice George IV silver snuff box,
by William Simpson, Birmingham 1827-28, rectangular form, with engine-turned decoration, the hinged cover initialed in period script letters of "RHS" and with a gilt interior. Please click on the picture to see all the pictures. This piece is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1827-28, and bears Simpson's maker's mark on the interior of the lid and body. This box measures about 2 1/2 inches in length by 1 3/8 inches across, and weighs about 40 grams. Condition is good overall, with some surface wear and minor dents and dings, and some stubborn tarnish spots to the reverse, but no major problems and no splits or repairs. The gilding to the interior is mostly intact, and the marks are all legible. All in all a nice example of an English Georgian silver snuffbox!
