Offered is a fine Irish 18th Century sterling silver stuffing or gravy spoon fully hallmarked for Dublin, 1784 and bearing the maker's mark of John Pittar, a prolific and well-respected silversmith. The hallmarks and maker's mark are clear and well struck. This piece also bears a period engraved armorial of a hand grasping a dagger. This platter spoon measures about 11 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 96 grams. It is quite a good example of the "Celtic point" style or pattern. Condition is good overall; there is some tip wear and edge sharpness to the bowl and a little surface wear but no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a fine and early Irish serving piece, ready for the table or for under the tree this holiday season!
