Offered is a very well-executed Georgian English sterling silver gravy or sauce ladle by London silversmith William Traies, who seems to have had a short but productive career in the 1820s. This piece is hallmarked for London circa 1826 and bears a clear maker's mark for Traies. His work is usually of a very good quality and this piece is no exception, with good weight and proportions, and an expertly engraved monogram of "ASM". This ladle measures about 7 inches in length and weighs about 68 grams, or more than two troy ounces. Condition is very good, with modest wear from normal use and no dents, splits or repairs. The date "1784" is discreetly engraved near the hallmarks, but doesn't detract from the piece at all. All in all an excellent example of Georgian sterling silver!
