Offered is a Philadelphia coin silver dessert spoon by well-known silversmith George K. Childs, whose work is often seen, but almost exclusively with his G.K.CHILDS mark. Two other marks, G.CHILDS and the G.K.C. mark on this piece, are much, much rarer. I've observed only one example each of those two marks in the past fifteen years, and the mark on this piece was used for the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. The maker's mark is clear and well-struck. This piece measures about 7 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 20 grams. Condition overall is fair to poor, with some bowl wear and dents, but no splits or repairs. There is no monogram or sign of erasure. All in all a good example of a very rare American coin silver maker's mark!
