Offered is an excellent and scarce pair of American coin silver tea spoons by noted Philadelphia silversmith John McMullin, each bearing one of his rarest maker's marks - J.M'MULLIN in a rectangular punch. Mr. McMullin was successful and prolific, and had numerous maker's marks over his long career, but only one used a "J" for his first initial, rather than an "I". In about fifteen years of collecting Philadelphia silver specifically, these are the only examples of this maker's mark I was able to find, and the mark on these spoons was used for the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Hollan. The maker's mark on each spoon is crisp and clear. Each spoon is also engraved with a period script "G" for the owner. These spoons each measure about 6 1/8 inches in length, and the pair weighs a good 46 grams altogether. Condition is very good to excellent, with one spoon having a little more surface wear than the other, but both free of dents, splits or repairs. All in all an excellent and rare pair of Philadelphia coin silver teaspoons from a truly important maker!

Sold as a pair only.
