Offered is a rare set of four Southern coin silver spoons by Shelbyville silversmith Warren B. Ewing, working from about 1845 to his death in 1876. Each of these spoons is marked WBE incuse, which is a much scarcer mark used by Ewing than is his full name mark. Each spoon has the typical style and proportions of Ewing's work, and each has a legible maker's mark. There is no sign of a monogram or erasure. By style, these spoons probably date to before the Civil War. These spoons measure about 5 3/4 inches in length on average, and the set weighs a total of about 70 grams. Condition overall is good, with three spoons in very nice shape and one spoon having a moderate ripple in the handle. There are no splits or repairs to any of the spoons. All in all a fine example of this man's work and rarest mark!
