Offered is a good early American coin silver tablespoon by well-known Delaware and Pennsylvania silversmith Henry J. Pepper (1790-1853), working from about 1811 to 1826 in Wilmington, and from about 1826 to 1850 in Philadelphia. This spoon probably dates to the Philadelphia period but could have been made toward the end of the Wilmington period - styles during this period were very similar between the two cities. This table spoon is engraved with a period script "CRS" monogram and bears an excellent strike of Pepper's maker's mark, one of a number of maker's marks he used over the course of a long and successful career. This piece measures a little over 9 inches in length and weighs a good 58 grams. Condition is good overall, with some shallow bumps to the bowl but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of this man's wares!
