Offered is a scarce American coin silver youth set (or at least the fork and knife) in the fiddlethread pattern by Marquand & Co., led by Frederick Marquand (active in Savannah, Georgia and New York City). This set would have been made in New York City between 1833 and 1838. As such, they can't be considered Southern coin silver. The hollow handles and good condition of the pieces are unusual features for this date, and the knife bears a well-struck maker's mark for this firm. The fork has no maker's mark, and neither piece has any engraving or any sign of erasure. The fork measures about 7 1/4 inches in length and the knife measures about 7 7/8 inches in length. These pieces are not weighable as the handles are filled. Condition is very good overall, with a few minor dimples in the handles, but no major dents and no bends, splits or repairs. As noted, the knife is marked but the fork is not. All in all a lovely set!
