Offered is a very good Georgian English sterling silver OEP sauce or gravy ladle, fully hallmarked for London, 1810 and bearing a maker's mark that is almost certainly for members of the Bateman family (Peter and William), though it is a little rubbed. The armorial or crest is of a long-necked bird that appears to be a mythological beast, emerging from a crown or coronet. It is nicely executed. This piece measures about 6 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 60 grams. It is in excellent overall condition after more than two hundred years, with only modest wear from normal use and no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a fine example of the form!
