Offered is a fine and rare set of early Chinese Export Silver teaspoons in the military fiddle and thread pattern, by the major Chinese silversmith Linchong (or Lin Chong, Lynchong), working in Canton circa 1810-30 and perhaps a little later. He is known to have been working on New China Street in Canton in 1820. Like most Canton silversmiths, little has been published about Linchong in English-language reference works, but his work is widely admired and considered to compare favorably to English silverwork of the period. Please take a look at all five photos. Each of these spoons is clearly marked with Linchong's maker's mark and set of pseudo-hallmarks, imitating English Georgian marks of the time. Each spoon is also engraved with an armorial of a crown or coronet surmounting a period script "F" monogram. These spoons measure about 5 5/8 inches in length on average, and the set weighs about 152 grams altogether. Condition is very good, with only modest surface wear and no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a lovely and fine example of this sought-after Canton maker's work!
