Offered is a very fine 18th Century French silver table spoon with excellent marks and unusual style. This piece in form and decoration resembles 18th Century coin silver spoons from New York, and perhaps was made for an American or a French customer with a preference for this style. Certainly it is atypical for Parisian silver of this era. This piece bears full French hallmarks for 1781-89 and a maker's mark that appears to be for Claude LaCroix, working in Paris circa 1780-93. The hallmarks are clear and well-struck. Please take a look at all the pictures. This piece measures about 8 3/8 inches in length and weighs about 74 grams. There is a period engraved script monogram within an ovoid reserve. Condition overall is excellent, with modest wear and a few surface scratches but no major dents and no splits or repairs. This would make an excellent serving piece or display piece. All in all a lovely and unusual example of silver from pre-Revolutionary France!
