Offered is a nice early crested Georgian English sterling silver sauce or gravy ladle by noted London silversmith Richard Crossley, fully hallmarked for 1782. The armorial is of what appears to be a lion's paw emerging from a coronet and grasping an escallop (scallop shell); I've not researched the armorial to determine the family, but it is probably traceable. This piece measures about 6 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 52 grams. Condition is fair to good overall, with some surface wear and the bowl being very slightly out of round, but no major dents and no splits or repairs. All in all a fine and useful piece!
