Offered is a lovely and scarce large American coin silver gravy or sauce ladle by noted Philadelphia silversmith John McMullin (b. 1765 - d. 1843), measuring about 8 1/4 inches in length and weighing about 60 grams. This piece by style should date to about 1810 but could be a few years earlier or later. It is certainly more than two centuries old. This piece is engraved with a well-executed period script monogram that appears to be "HT". The ladle is marked to the reverse with one of McMullin's earlier maker's marks, and the eagle mark he used on his better work in this period. Condition is very good overall, with modest wear from normal use but no dents, splits or repairs. This ladle is an unusual size, about an inch longer than a typical gravy or sauce ladle. Please take a look at all the pictures. All in all a fine piece of early Philadelphia silver!
