Offered is a lovely English Georgian sterling silver master salt cellar by the noted partnership of Robert Hennell I and David Hennell I, fully hallmarked for London, 1770. This partnership was in effect circa 1763-73 when David Hennell I, the father, retired. This firm continued for decades under multiple generations of this prolific family of silversmiths. This piece is nicely crested with an armorial of a dragon's head. See my other listings for a feather-edge master salt spoon with the same family crest, but by different makers. This master salt cellar measures about 1 9/16 inches in height by about 2 5/16 inches across the rim at the widest. It weighs about 58 grams. Condition is very good, with some modest surface wear to the interior, as expected, and on small ding to the interior that does not show up on the exterior. This piece, rather than being circular, has an unusual ovoid configuration that seems not to have been made in quantity. All in all a lovely and useful table item, dating back almost a quarter of a millennium!
