Offered is an early American coin silver tablespoon by noted New York silversmith Daniel Van Voorhis, circa 1780-90. This piece could have been made when Van Voorhis was working in New York, in Princeton, NJ, or in Philadelphia. It appears by style to date to the 1780s. This piece measures about 8 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 54 grams. In addition to a maker's mark (full name) and pseudo-hallmark, this piece is decorated with engraving including a period script monogram. Condition is fairly poor overall, with a worn tip and probably reshaped bowl, and a small probable repair to a split on the left side of the bowl The surface and monogram also have some wear. Nonetheless, all in all a nice old piece of American silver by a noted maker!
