SOLD

Offered is a lovely and amazingly well-preserved set of five American coin silver spoons by well-known Wilmington, DE silversmith General James Wolf, working circa 1800-22 in that city. Although "General" is part of his given name, Mr. Wolf did serve in the military during the War of 1812, and attained the rank of Major. Wolf's silver-work is sought after and desirable; he made a variety of flatware and hollowware forms over the course of his career, and he was quite productive. Although I've seen a number of pieces by Wolf, none have been better preserved than this set of five teaspoons, dating to the 1810-22 timeframe. These spoons measure about 5 5/8 inches each, and weigh a total of about 76 grams. Each spoon has a well-struck maker's mark for G. J. Wolf, and each is engraved with a period script monogram of "EV". Please take a look at all the pictures. Condition is excellent, with minimal wear and no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a lovely example of Delaware coin silver dating back nearly 200 years!
