Offered is an extremely rare early American watch paper for Savannah, GA clock and watch maker James M. Jones, working circa 1825-50 in that city. Mr. Jones was also an active member of the community and a Lieutenant in the Chatham Artillery; he took part in the defense of Jacksonville in This watch paper was engraved by George W. Teubner of New York, who flourished between 1832 and 1845, so it is likely the watch paper dates to that specific period, probably on the earlier end. Please take a careful look at all the pictures. This watch paper measures about 55 mm at its widest. Condition is fair overall, with a few losses but with no significant impact to the engraving or the text. I can find no record of any other watch paper known for James M. Jones, and I don't know if there are silver watch cases, flatware, etc. bearing his mark. This is a very rare piece of Southern ephemera! All in all a fine early Savannah piece!
