Offered is a very early (hallmarked for the year of transition between George I and George II, 1727) English Georgian sterling silver punch ladle by noted London maker George Greenhill Jones, working circa 1719 to 1748. This piece measures about 13 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 60 grams. There is no monogram or crest and no sign of engraving or erasure. The color is very good on this piece and there is very little wear to the surface or hallmarks. The turned wood handle is in good condition, but could be an older replacement. There is a tiny separation inside the bowl - this is an internal seam and does not go to the outside of the piece. It will not be noticed unless one is looking for it, and does not affect the use of the piece. The silver portion of the handle, as is often the case with these, has a split, which also does not affect the integrity or use of the piece. There is a small, shallow dent in that spot on the handle as well. Although the handle is slightly loose due to shrinkage of the wood, the piece is still firmly attached and this ladle can be used for punch all day long without concern. All in all a lovely and early piece, nearly three centuries old!
