Offered is a lovely American coin silver teaspoon by well-known Philadelphia jeweler and spoon manufacturer Phineas Fries, working there from 1837 through the 1870s or later. This spoon most likely dates to the 1840s or 1850s but could be a little later. It is engraved with a period script monogram and is struck with a clear maker's mark and, unusually, a COIN standard mark - not common for this firm. The marks on this particular spoon were used for the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. This spoon measures about 6 inches long and weighs about 16 grams. Condition is very good overall, with a few very small dings to the edge of the upper handle, but no dents worth noting and no splits or repairs. All in all a nice usable piece!
