Offered is a very nice American coin silver dessert spoon by S. M. Hopper of Philadelphia, working at 66 Chesnut Street when this spoon was made, per the maker's mark and address mark on the spoon. That indicates the spoon was made between 1847 and 1856. The marks on this particular spoon were used for the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. This piece also has a nicely engraved period script monogram. It measures about 7 inches in length and weighs about 27 grams. Condition is very good overall, with almost no wear to the tip or surface, but with two small imperfections above the monogram (see picture), perhaps from salt etching onto the surface. There are no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a lovely piece in a desirable size!
