SOLD

Offered is a nice heavy 18th Century style English sterling master salt cellar, fully hallmarked for London, 1821 and also featuring a faint maker's mark that appears to be "I.C". This master salt cellar measures about 2 5/8 inches across the rim and it is about 1 1/2 inches high to the rim. There is no monogram, crest or armorial and no sign of erasure. This piece is in fair condition, with no dents, splits or repairs but with some corrosion on both the inside and outside of the salt cellar. In other words, the surface has some stains and marks that cannot be removed by ordinary polishing. As such, this salt cellar would be best used in a utilitarian way - some people use them to hold desk items, like stables or push pins. Others use them as penny holders at antique shops. In any event, a nice 225+ year old piece at approximately scrap value!
