SOLD

Offered is a good early American coin silver teaspoon by noted Philadelphia silversmiths and jewelers Francis and Frederick Thibault, working in partnership circa 1807-09. This is a quite early example of the fully developed fiddle form that would take precedence in Philadelphia in the 1810-25 period; the feature that gives away its age is the slight squaring of the shoulders. This spoon has a legible maker's mark or retailer's mark and a worn but legible period engraved script monogram. The spoon measures about 6 1/8 inches in length and weighs about 19 grams. Condition is fair overall, with some surface wear and some shallow bumping to the bowl, but with no splits or repairs. All in all a good early piece with a sought-after Philadelphia mark!
