SOLD

Offered is a very good and quite heavy American coin silver table spoon and two matching and equally substantial table forks in the fiddlethread pattern by Marquand & Co., working in New York circa 1833-39. These pieces are marked with a clear, well-struck maker's mark and is also engraved with a very well done period script monogram of NDCM. Interestingly, the forks have a different pseudo-hallmark (an eagle) than does the tablespoon (a lion). The tablespoon measures about 8 5/8 inches in length and weighs a very heavy 84 grams or so. The forks are between 8 1/8 and 8 1/4 inches in length, and weigh 90 and 87 grams respectively. Condition is very good overall, with minor wear from normal use, but no dents, splits, or repairs. The monogram on one fork is more lightly engraved than on the other two pieces, perhaps by someone with a little less arm strength. All in all a lovely example of Marquand's coin silver!

I will consider splitting these up if someone just needs the forks, or just needs the spoon.
