Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon in the fiddle pattern by noted Philadelphia silversmith Edward Lownes (1792-1834), and bearing one of his more attractive and uncommon maker's marks. This piece also has a period engraved script monogram that is partially rubbed. This spoon measures about 6 inches in length and weighs about 21 grams. Condition is fair to good, with some surface wear and a few dimples in the bowl, but no splits or repairs. This is a nice example of an interesting maker's mark by this prolific and well-respected silversmith, who died young at age 43. All in all a good piece of Philadelphia coin silver!
