SOLD

Offered is a nice Southern coin silver tablespoon in a specific variation of the fiddle pattern with flared shoulders and pointed end that I've observed only in Kentucky pieces. This piece is engraved with a worn period script family name, and is marked only W.P.LOOMIS, for the Frankfort, KY silversmith, jeweler and watchmaker. He seems to have first appeared in Frankfort around 1809, and was born in Massachusetts circa 1794. This tablespoon, measuring about 8 3/4 inches in length and weighing about 64 grams, was probably made in the 1830s or 1840s. Condition is fair overall, with some bumps to the bowl and a bit of tip and surface wear, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice Kentucky coin silver table spoon!
