Offered is a gorgeous and well-sized French silver beaker or julep cup by well-known specialist maker Theodore Tonnelier, working in Paris circa 1794-1835. This piece measures about 3 9/16 inches in height and weighs about 109 grams. It is engraved with a period monogram of AR enclosed in a shield surmounting crossed laurels. The effect is quite pleasing. This piece bears a maker's mark for Tonnelier and the Paris first standard (950 fine) silver mark for 1819-38. An additional mark (charge or discharge) is on the upper side of the piece, opposite the side with the engraving. This piece is in excellent condition and would display very well. It is also heavy and well made and would ably serve at your next Kentucky Derby party! All in all a beautiful example of a French silver beaker!
