SOLD

Offered is an excellent example of the work of William H. Doll (1796-1852), who is listed as working as a clock and watchmaker in Harrisburg circa 1820-35, and who later gave up the profession. Mr. Doll's father Joseph is the best-known silversmith in the family, and even his work is uncommon. The mark on this piece, "W.H Doll." in script, is quite rare. This spoon has a clear and legible maker's mark, as well as a set of period engraved block initials. This spoon is quite small at 4 7/8 inches in length and weighs a sturdy 13 grams. It is quite well made, and has excellent proportions. Condition is very good, with no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a fine example from a sought-after Harrisburg maker!
