Offered is a rare and fine example of the work of the short-lived partnership of brothers Thomas Warner and Andrew Ellicott Warner, Sr., who formed their joint venture in 1805 and ended it when Thomas went to fight the British in the War of 1812. Each brother was exceptionally successful in his own right, working alone or otherwise, but for whatever reason work by the partnership is difficult to find, particularly with such a nice set of marks, including the partnership's maker's mark, the eagle head mark sometimes used by Thomas Warner particularly, and the sterling standard mark also used most often by Thomas Warner, following the Irish provincial tradition that was continued by some in Baltimore. This piece has clear marks and a somewhat worn period engraved script monogram. It measures about 9 1/4 inches in length and weighs a heavy 78 grams, or about 2 1/2 troy ounces. Condition is good overall, with some surface wear and marks, but with no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a very desirable example of the work of this partnership!
