Offered is a scarce example of an early Canadian silver spoon with a family crest, by Quebec City maker James Smellie, and bearing two strikes of his maker as well as a couple of pseudo-hallmarks. Smellie seems to have been working from about 1819 to 1829. His work is known, but not at all common. This piece measures about 5 11/16 inches in length and weighs about 17 grams. Take a look at all of the photos. Condition is fair, with some surface wear and tip wear and some dings and dimples to the bowl, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of this man's work, with an interesting period engraved armorial!
