SOLD

Offered is a very rare example of the mark and work of Frederick W. Parrott (b. 1829 - d. 1917), a jeweler and watchmaker working in Philadelphia in the late 1840s, in Trenton, NJ between 1850-58, again in Philadelphia from 1858-60, in Bordertown, NJ for some time, and then in Philadelphia for the rest of his career. This spoon probably dates to his first Philadelphia period but could be from the Trenton years. It has an extremely clear and well-struck maker's mark of F.W.PARROTT in a rectangular punch, and is also decorated with a period engraved script monogram. The mark on this spoon was used for the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. Please take a look at all the photos. This piece measures about 5 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 13 grams. Condition is good overall, with some dings to the bowl but no splits or repairs. All in all a fine example of a very rare and interesting maker's mark!
