SOLD

Offered is a very rare example of an American coin silver spoon bearing the maker's mark or retailer's mark of George Wilson, a silversmith working in Philadelphia between 1848 and 1852; the maker's mark on this spoon was featured in the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. This piece is graced with a period engraved script monogram with nice features, and has a legible maker's mark of G.WILSON in a rectangular punch, as well as a quality mark of STANDARD in a banner. This spoon measures about 5 13/16 inches in length and weighs about 13 grams. Condition is fair overall, with lots of dings to the bowl and some surface wear, but no splits and no obvious repairs. All in all a fine example of an exceedingly rare mark!
