Offered is a nice pair of New York coin silver teaspoons circa 1825-40 by J.BELL with pseudo-hallmarks; this mark has sometimes been given to John Bell of New York City, but he seems to have worked too early for the style of these spoons unless they were in the last year or two of his career. There were also at least two J. Bells working in Ogdensburg, NY between 1810 and 1850 or 60, and this could be the mark of one of those men. In any event, these are two nicely marked spoons with a good period engraved script monogram. These spoons measure about 5 3/4 inches in length and weigh about 28 grams altogether. Condition is fair to good overall, with some bumps to the bowls but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice pair!
