Offered is a Southern coin silver spoon by noted Virginia and DC silversmith William A. Williams (1787-1846), who worked in Alexandria from circa 1811 to 1834, and then in Washington, DC from 1834 to his death. This piece dates by style to about 1820 but could be a few years earlier or later. It measures about 5 5/8 inches in length, and weighs about 16 grams. It has a rubbed but legible maker's mark, and a nicely engraved period script "WG" monogram. Condition overall is fair at best, with some wear and dents, as well as bends and ripples to the handle. However, there are no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of this man's work, and of Alexandria coin silver!
