Offered is a nice early American coin silver spoon bearing the maker's mark JAS.D.PHILIPS, probably for a man of that name who worked in New York. This mark has been mis-attributed to a Cincinnati and Kentucky silversmith, but the style of this piece likely precludes such an attribution. This piece has a clear, well-struck maker's mark and a worn but legible period script "BEB" monogram. This spoon measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 15 grams. Condition is fair, with moderate tip and surface wear and some small dimples in the bowl, but no splits or repairs. Please take a look at all the photos. All in all a nice example of an uncommon mark in American coin silver!
