Offered is a very fine early American coin silver tablespoon circa 1820-30 by Philadelphia silversmith Edward Lownes, perhaps made by John Curry or another silversmith due to the floret marks typical of Curry's work, and the Philadelphia city mark used by several silversmiths. This piece bears a well-struck mark for Edward Lownes, and a nice collection of other marks as noted above. The marks on this particular spoon were pictured in the book "Philadelphia Silversmiths" by Catherine Hollan. This tablespoon also has a very good period engraved script monogram to the handle. This piece is quite heavy at 70 grams or so, and measures about 9 1/8 inches in length. Condition is good overall, though there is some tip wear (see pics); there are no major dings and no splits or repairs. All in all a lovely example of Philadelphia marks at their most interesting!
