Offered is an excellent example of late 18th Century American silver sugar tongs, in this case by noted Albany, New York silversmith Isaac Hutton. See my other listings for a 1780s example by Hutton in partnership with John Folsom. The tongs in this listing were made by Hutton probably during the period between 1790 and 1796 when he working alone in Albany. These tongs have great wrigglework decoration and an engraved period block letter set of owner's initials. One really unusual feature about these tongs is the wrigglework to the grips (see pics), which makes for a lovely effect. The shape of the arms on this pair of tongs is also unusual, and quite attractive. This piece is marked with Hutton's maker's mark once on each arm, and the marks are crisp and clear. This piece measures about 6 1/4 inches in length and weighs about 42 grams. Condition is excellent overall, with minimal wear and no dents bends, splits or repairs. All in all a gorgeous pair of coin silver sugar tongs from the 18th Century!
