Offered is a nice 19th Century American coin silver sugar shell by unknown silversmith or jeweler H. J. Low, possibly a man named Henry J. Low purportedly working in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in the mid-19th Century. I haven't found a verifiable reference for this mark, which is H.J.LOW in a rectangular punch. It doesn't appear that this Mr. Low is related to the much more famous Low family of silversmiths/jewelers in Boston in the same era - at least not closely. This piece has a good clear maker's mark, and a period engraved set of script initials to the reverse. It measures about 6 3/8 inches in length, and weighs about 23 grams. Condition is very good overall, with a tiny dimple or two in the bowl, but no major dents and no splits or repairs. Please review all of the pictures. All in all a nice example of what appears to be a very rare mark!
