SOLD

Offered is an excellent and rare example of the wares of Bittrolff Brothers, a partnership in Evansville, Indiana around 1858-61 (I can supply digital newspaper clippings of the start and end of this partnership), between John Louis Bittrolff, Jr. (who went by "Louis"), and George H. Bittrolff. The Bittrolff jewelry business started with the father, John Louis, Sr., and the sons purchased his interest in 1858. After 1861 they set up competing businesses, offering Evansville a choice of jewelry establishments at various times over the next several decades. This piece has a clear maker's mark or retailer's mark, and a period engraved script monogram. This salt spoon measures about 3 3/4 inches in length and weighs about 8 grams. Condition is very good overall, with a polish needed but no dents, splits or repairs. Please review all of the pictures. All in all a nice example of this very rare mark!
