SOLD

Offered is a lovely American coin silver dessert spoon by noted Cincinnati silversmith, watchmaker and clockmaker Alexander McGrew (1775 - 1843), who was working in Cincinnati circa 1805-36, and perhaps a bit earlier or later. In addition to his main career, Alexander was also director of the Ohio Mechanics Institute (a school for the trades) and involved in the development of railroads in the Midwest. This dessert spoon has a rubbed but legible maker's mark and a lovely period engraved script monogram of "DFC". This piece measures about 7 inches in length and weighs about 22 grams. Condition is very good overall, with modest wear and no dents, splits or repairs. By style, this piece probably dates to the 1820-36 period. Please review all of the pictures. All in all a fine example of this sought-after Cincinnati silversmith's work!
