St. Louis, Missouri Coin Silver Spoon Marked J.SHAW&CO.

Offered is a good American coin silver teaspoon by John Shaw & Co. of St. Louis; John Shaw used this company mark in approximately the 1842-52 period, and later this mark was cut down to remove the "& Co." portion. As such, this spoon should date to that 1842-52 period. It is marked with a clear maker's mark and a period engraved script "MES" monogram. This piece measures about 5 15/16 inches in length and weighs about 17 grams. Condition is fairly good overall, with some dings to the bowl, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of this less common St. Louis coin silver mark!
